Cars of foreign brands appear relatively rarely on the road surface in Korea, which is mainly due to the following aspects:

  1. Korea auto market is highly competitive: Korea has well-known local car brands such as Hyundai, Kia, etc., which have high visibility and sales in the Korea market. At the same time, in the Korea market, the competition between local car brands and international brands is also very fierce, so it is not easy for foreign brands to occupy an advantage in the Korea market.

  2. Korea Automotive Market Protection Policy: The Korea automotive market has been regarded as a relatively closed market, and the government has put in place a number of trade barriers and industry restrictions to protect local automakers. For example, the government has adopted CO2 emission standards similar to those in Europe and has imposed higher customs duties and excise taxes on imported cars. This makes it difficult for foreign brands to compete with local brands in the Korea market.

  3. Korea consumers prefer local brands: Korea consumers generally prefer local brand cars. This consumer psychology is linked to national pride and nationalist sentiments, who perceive local brands as more reliable in quality, more adaptable to local road conditions and environments, and more thoughtful in terms of after-sales service.

  4. Korea Automaker Competitive Advantage: Korea has a number of innovative and technologically strong automakers. For example, Hyundai Motor Group is one of the world's largest automakers and is a leader in fuel cell vehicles, hybrid vehicles, and other fields. These local automakers have competitive advantages in product research and development, technological innovation, etc., so they are relatively more competitive in the market than foreign brands.

In short, there are not so many foreign brands of cars on the road in Korea, mainly due to multiple factors such as fierce competition in the Korea auto market, policy protection, consumer preferences and the competitive advantages of local automakers. However, as the Korea car market continues to open up, more foreign brands of cars may be sold in the Korea market in the future.
